WAITING IN THE WINGS
by Noel Coward

Directed by Warren C. Bowles

Two aging and rival stars from post WW1 England find themselves living in the Wings, a retirement home for former actresses. Now without a career or a clear identity, the women must deal with the loss of their dignity and privacy by an intrusive press and inquisitive residents. Noel Coward’s Waiting in the Wings presents a humorous take on what can happen to independent women who dared to outlive their “usefulness.” As the playwright said, “the basic truth (is) that old age needn’t be nearly so dreary and sad as it is supposed to be, provided you greet it with humor and live it with courage.” This is our largest cast to date: fourteen women—eleven of whom are over 50—and four men.
