About The Step By Step Training Program

Availability and Accomplishment

Our first training program, “Dogs Don’t Speak English”’ is now the Accredited Apprenticeship Service Dog Training Manual for The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections. Today, in Grafton Correctional Institution, this training course completion and mastery is the core of W.A.G.S. 4 KIDS re-entry Workforce Development Initiative. Inmate Trainers have the opportunity through practice, written testing and actual skills performance to be certified trainers for W.A.G.S. for Kids in six levels of training expertise.

Expanding our Mission

Because of you - we have now stretched beyond Northeastern Ohio to a second location in Central Ohio at Franklin Medical Center (FMC), a correctional facility in Franklin County. Now, we need your support to reach the children there. FMC houses the end of life hospice care unit for the ODRC. Our W.A.G.S. dogs, while in training for their final placement with a child, will be used for periods of comfort care in the hospice unit. Another way your support affects the lives of so many. With this expansion we look forward to serving a greater population of kids in need and to build another program affecting real life rehabilitation through skills training and the Workforce Development Initiative of our inmate trainers through job creation. Our 2017 goal is simple – more dogs, more trainers, and more financial support for training tools, medical expenses and puppy acquisition; so we can continue our mission to reach more kids who need our help. This year, more than any before, please join us! We promise to keep showing you how your tax- deductible donation has directly impacted a child; has lifted them to their greatest potential and most joyful life. The children have found us, they are depending on us, they are depending on you, and they are waiting.
