Join us for this FREE Family Open House:

Wagner's Winter Wonderland: Groundhog Day
Saturday, February 2nd, 2019, Noon to 4 p.m.

How long is winter going to last this year? Can groundhogs accurately predict the weather? Come to our event to find out!

Meteorologist Kelly Flanigan from PennEnvironment and other climate scientists will be talking about this popular tradition that started here in Pennsylvania over 170 years ago.

There will also be fun, hands-on science activities throughout the building focused on Groundhog Day and weather folklore such as:

  • Be a sundial--and make one to take home!

  • Join a shadowpuppet menagerie

  • Groundhog Day-themed scavenger hunts and coloring

  • Make a groundhog mask

The event runs from noon to 4 p.m. and activities will be happening in our lecture hall and museum all afternoon, so come anytime! Activities are geared toward children 6 to 12, but all ages can enjoy this event. The event is also a great opportunity for anyone who wants to visit the Wagner and its 100,000-specimen natural history collection on a weekend.

Cost is free; for those who would like to donate to attend, we suggest $10 for adults and $5 for children.
