Comox Valley’s Quarantones male chorus invites you to join them as they “take a plunge” into their “Wade in the Water” Concert at the Maritime Heritage Centre at 7pm on June 10, 2023.
The performance features songs ranging from pop hits ”Under the Boardwalk” and ”Let the River Run” to folk and roots classics “Wade in the Water” and “Old Man River”; to sea shanties “The Wellerman”and “High Barbary”; from the sublime “The Stars are with the Voyager” to the playful “Bring Me Little Water Silvy”. We fill out the program with the Celtic “Riversong” and the traditional Scottish “Skye Boat Song” along with a few other familiar tunes.
The Quarantones Male Chorus is a small, auditioned men's ensemble, singing both a cappella and accompanied choral works, promoting and singing male choral music from a variety of genres and styles which include sea shanties, classical, modern choral works, folk, rock and even barbershop harmony to name a few. This music is diverse, warming and infectious, touching the hearts of its listeners and lingering in their memory.
Starting as a quartet, singing outdoors with social distancing in the summer of 2020, the Quarantones male chorus now features 13 auditioned singers. These men come from a cross-section of musical backgrounds, including musical theatre, rock ‘n’ roll, opera choruses, church and community choirs, folk and roots ensembles, and academia. Four of the singers are themselves current or former choral conductors.
