Event description

Description

Greenwich Village was once the epicenter of counterculture and bohemia in America. For more than 150 years’ artist, writers, poets, musicians, free thinkers, playwrights, actors, socialist, the disenfranchised, those who were different and those who sought to be different have settled in the Village and rebelled against the norms of society. Along the way many changed the way America looks at itself.

These streets have stories…. many interesting stories. This tour re-counts the influence of Greenwich Village through the lives of individuals and events that made a lasting impact on society. Gertrude Vanderbilt, Bob Dylan, Edward Hopper, ee Cummings, John Reed, Eugene O’Neil, Stamford White and a host of other characters with wacky out stories, successes, tragedies, bouts of deviance, and lasting influence.

On this stroll around Washington Square we visit historical landmarks, while relating the tales of these individuals who have shaped the Village.

Join us for 2.5 hours, 2.5 miles walking (with break)

This tour begins at Sheridan Square (West 4th street and Washington Place) and ends at the Jefferson Market Library (6th Ave and West 10th). Please plan accordingly
