Event description

Description

Wabi-Sabi is the Japanese aesthetic of appreciating the present moment in its impermanence, incompletion and imperfection. In today's Japan, the meaning of wabi-sabi is often condensed to "wisdom in natural simplicity." In art books, it is typically defined as "flawed beauty". This workshop seeks to embrace flawed beauty in a perfectionistic world. Inspiration comes from the cycles of nature, the handmade, and authentic materials. Wabi-Sabi embraces the understanding that nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect.

In this workshop, participants use art techniques and poetry writing to find wabi-sabi beauty in their own life. Projects include mixed media painting, assemblage and suminagashi, Japanese marbling. This three-session workshop suits the beginning artist or one who is beginning again. The workshop will help individuals experiment, embrace unexpected results and develop greater expressive confidence.

This workshop is presented in three sessions with approximately 2 hours each session. The sessions are scheduled as follows: July 29 at 11 am; August 5 at 11 am; and August 12 at 11 am.

*Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing suitable for working with paint.

**Workshop fee includes all supplies and light refreshments.
