Description

"Painting in many ways is a blind man's profession. An artist paints not what he sees, but what he feels and thinks about what he sees." -Pablo Picasso

Drawing the figure is complex enough in and of itself. Add to it the changing light and the constant movement found in nature and the challenge becomes even more exciting! I will discuss concepts (as taught to me and also proven over the years in my own work) for working with speed and confidence and about the effects of color unique to outdoor settings. I will begin with Frank Reilly's (Art Student's League) 6-line system of connectivity in drawing the figure . . . an abbreviated system that helps to deal with changing light and movement and results in an organic feel to drawing/painting the figure.

I will demo two mornings, one drawing, one painting . . . then the students will practice my teaching in those respective afternoons. The class will work in studio until the third day, when, weather permitting the students will work out of doors.

I teach a manner of thinking and all medias are welcome. I often have oil painters and watercolorists in my classes. My demos are in pastel.
