Event description

Description

You are invited to a community planning session hosted by King County's Veterans, Seniors & Human Services Levy (VSHSL) to inform the investment for Evidence-Based Senior Health Promotion (Strategy HL 2A).

  • Thursday, December 12, 2019, from 10:30am-12:30pm at Shoreline Library (345 NE 175th Street, Shoreline, WA 98155)

At the community planning session we will discuss:

  1. How does your organization or community define “health promotion” for seniors? What senior health issues and needs should this funding opportunity address?
  2. How widespread is awareness of and participation in current evidence-based health promotion programs for seniors in King County?
  3. How can this funding opportunity deepen access to and enhance supports for evidence-based health promotion programs for seniors?
  4. What strategies should this funding opportunity incorporate to ensure that funded programs reach a broad range of seniors, particularly seniors from low-income communities, communities of color, and other communities facing health and health care disparities?
  5. What would the community consider successful outcomes for this funding opportunity?

Background:

King County's Veterans, Seniors and Human Services Levy (VSHSL) Implementation Plan for 2019-2023 is now enacted. This plan includes funding to provide access to evidence-based healthy aging programs in King County. The VSHSL team plans to launch a Request for Proposal (RFP) for VSHSL - Strategy HL 2A: Evidence-Based Senior Health Promotion in early 2020.

Page 109 of the VSHSL Implementation Plan provides guidance for implementation of this program as well as outlines the anticipated King County investment. The funding commitment is for 4 years (2020 - 2023) and will serve seniors with $6,900,000 designated for this strategy.

This session is designed as a forum to receive feedback from the community before we finalize this RFP.

Light refreshments will be provided.
