Description

You are invited to participate in the upcoming King County Community Planning Sessions to help shape, envision and inform the approach to the Veterans, Seniors and Human Services Levy - SS 3B Survivor-Centered Mobile Advocacy for Survivors of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence. There will be two mobile advocacy centered community planning sessions for the investment.

This is the RSVP page for Community Planning Session 2 on Wednesday February 19, 2019 from 6-8pm at the Valley View Library (17850 Military Rd S, Seatac, WA 98188)


These community planning session is designed to hear from advocates, survivors, community members and others working with survivors of domestic violence to help inform the development of this application before it is finalized. Attendees are invited to attend are one or both of these sessions. Each session will have a similar format and agenda. Light food and beverages will be provided at each session.

At this community planning session we will discuss:

  • The history and evidence base of mobile advocacy
  • Definition and uses of terms such as advocate, survivor-centered and advocacy-based counseling
  • How do providers see mobile advocacy as working in concert with other supports and services they provide
  • The benefits and challenges of flexible emergency financial assistance
  • How to build towards racial, ethnic, cultural and regional inclusivity



Background

King County's Veterans, Seniors and Human Services Levy (VSHSL) Implementation Plan for 2019-2023 is now enacted. We are pleased to share that the Implementation Plan includes a program to support a network of mobile, flexible, trained and resourced advocates serving survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault from diverse backgrounds. Pages 133-135 of the VSHSL Implementation Plan provide guidance for implementation of this program as well as outlines the anticipated King County investments, which is a significant 5-year commitment averaging $1,073,000 per year.
