Nasal diseases in our canine and feline patients is often frustrating. Symptoms range from acute nasal discharge or epistaxis to chronic sneezing or sterterous breathing. This presentation will discuss the basic nasal anatomy, current imaging techniques (radiogaphs and CT), and use case examples to illustrate common nasal disorders including fungal disease, neoplasia, congenital changes, and foreign material.
10:00am Acute Abdomen: imaging options & interpretation - Dr. Renee Simpler & Dr. Sandy MacLeod
When presented a patient with acute abdominal pain, proper recommendations for and interpretation of diagnostic imaging tests are essential to case management. Once the patient is stabilized, the next two steps are to refine the differential diagnosis and to determine if medical or surgical management is best. This talk will use case studies to discuss radiography and ultrasound for common acute abdomen conditions including but not limited to pancreatitis, foreign body obstruction, intussusception, pyometra, bowel perforation/ulceration and abdominal abscesses.

Any case showing signs of respiratory or cardiac disease or that has a complete diagnostic workup requires thoracic radiographs. This lecture will review case studies to systematically detail the indications, techniques and interpretation of thoracic radiographs
12:00pm - 1:00pm LUNCH
1:00pm Fast Scan Imaging: imaging in an emergency - Dr. Rebecca Syring
The term 'FAST scan' stands for Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma, Tracking and Triage. This is a technique that can be mastered by the general practitioner and emergency clinician, alike, without the need for extensive ultrasonographic training courses. This lecture will focus on the goals of the FAST scan for the abdomen and thorax, discuss how to perform a FAST scan, and use case examples to demonstrate how this technique can be extremely useful in the ill pet.
