Event Information
Description
In partnership with NYVR, NYC Media Lab and Littlstar, LoNyLa (London-NY-LA)/TimeWave launches the VR Hackathon on July 10-12, 2015. For more info, go to: http://timewavefestival.com/hackathons.html.
Hosted by the Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) at New York University, the hackathon will take place on Floor 4 of NYU Tisch at 721 Broadway, NYC 10003. Our generous sponsors include Unity 3D, EEVO, Fake Love, Freedom 360, Leap Motion, Littlstar, Oculus and VISR.
The VR Hackathon will provide a lab environment for the experimentation and innovation of virtual reality – experiences, storytelling and games.
The intense two-day format enables people with diverse skillsets to come together, conjure up and prototype concepts for virtual reality and other immersive technologies. Participants can mingle at the mega meet up on friday night before hunkering down for the hackathon. Awards will be given to outstanding projects as judged by a panel of seasoned veterans in the media and entertainment industry.
The theme: Mythos and Moxie. While technology evolves at an accelerated rate, the fundamental tenets of story (Greek: "mythos") remain the same. Story transcends technology and strikes the human heart. It allows us to glimpse universal truths as well as leads us to self discovery.
In the 2015 VR Hackathon, we encourage participants to probe VR with an eye on storytelling. We also support media creators with moxie - courage. Try things that have yet to be tried. In every project that fails, something is gained or learned.
Awards will be given to outstanding VR as judged by a panel of seasoned professionals in media, entertainment and immersive technology.
The VR Hackathon operates under the umbrella of Fractured Atlas, a 501(c)(3) public charity. Contributions for the purposes of VR Hackathon are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. See more.
