How will voting look in 2020?

About this Event

In less than 3 months, people across the nation will be making critical decisions about voting for government leaders who will represent and serve us in The White House, Congress, State legislatures, Courts of Law, and other important offices. To help us better understand all the rules and regulations for safely and timely casting our ballots during this pandemic, the Social Justice team - under our pillar of Assuring Democracy - has invited representatives from the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections (BOE) to a virtual meeting with members of the congregation on Sunday, August 30th, from 11:00 am to 12 noon, following our live streamed church service. Guest speakers will be the former Rep. Beverly Earle, one of five members on the Board of Elections and Kristin Mavromatis, BOE Public Information Manager. Get clarity on the process for absentee voting by mail, changes for early voting, BOE's protocol for providing safe environments for in-person voting if the coronavirus is still very present, and any other questions or concerns you have about making sure your vote is counted. Despite information swirling now about the ability of the US Postal Service to safely deliver our ballots on time, several thousand requests for absentee ballots have already been received locally by the Meck BOE, so you may want to take precautions and give yourself that option. Register today to reserve your spot. A Zoom link will be sent out a few days before the event start.
