Vote Your Park: A Bus Tour of Historic Flamingo
Date and time
Description
Join us for a free bus tour to the historic Flamingo district inside Everglades National Park as part of our Vote Your Park campaign. Learn about the "Mission 66" architecture that transformed Flamingo in the 1960s and current plans to restore the Flamingo Visitor Center to its former glory as a gateway to Florida Bay and the Everglades.
ABOUT THE EVENT: Meet at the Ernest Coe Center at 9:00 AM for registration and a welcome by Everglades Superintendent Pedro Ramos, then board the bus for a 3 hour round-trip tour to Flamingo. The ranger guided tour is free and includes a boxed lunch. Reservations required (click on "register" above to reserve your space).
CALL TO ACTION: Everglades National Park is one of 20 national parks competing for $2 million in funding from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and American Express. The grants will be awarded to the national parks that win the most public votes during an online voting campaign from May 25 to July 5. You can help restore Flamingo by going to www.VoteYourPark.org and voting daily for Everglades National Park. The parks that collect the most votes by July 5 will win a Partners in Preservation grant.
