About this event
Volunteers Needed for Winter Storm Uri Relief Shopping Spree!
Winter Storm Uri passed through the Houston area in mid-February, dropping temperatures to below 10 °F. The freezing temperatures over multiple days resulted in widespread power losses, inaccessible roads, pipes bursting to flood their surroundings, and a loss of drinkable water due to lack of water pressure or due to burst pipes. A group of families in the Alief ISD community reached out for help to replace losses from the storm. Fortunately, generous donations raised by the Houston International Jaycees provide them with a shopping spree to replace some of their lost items as they have returned from a long summer break.
Volunteers will be needed for 10 families during the following times to accompany them as they shop at either Walmart or Lowe’s on S Kirkwood in Houston. You will only need to help onsite to help pick items and keep in their budget, but Jaycee members will handle payments. They are in walking distance of each other, so you can easily move from one to the other if you want to help at both locations. Please let us know if you want to volunteer for one time or both:

We will REQUIRE all volunteers wear face masks to cover nose and mouth and be temperature checked on site. Volunteers will have a brief health survey to fill out. Anyone suspected of being sick will need to stay home for the health of volunteers and families. Pictures will be taken during the event. If you have any questions, please feel free to message me. Please register to help these families and for updates to the event.
