Event description

Description

Rescheduled from icy day in April: Michigan Hands & Voices invites you to VOLUNTEER for a Poverty Simulation Training. MIHV and members of collaborating organizations will take part in this simulation designed to help participants begin to understand what it is like for a typical low-income family trying to survive from week to week. We seek to build empathy, and help families remove the barriers and challenges that might get in the way of integrating their child's hearing loss into their lives.

We need lots of volunteers to run community "stores" and "agencies," so feel free to invite your colleagues and friends. You will be trained! Contact us with any questions. Call/text 248-514-9616.

NEW LOCATION: Southfield Providence Park Hospital Auditorium

AGENDA:

  • 8:00 am: Volunteer training begins. Small snack available.
  • 9:30 am -12:00 pm: Poverty Simulation

FACILITATOR: Heather El-Khoury LMSW, Coordinator of Field and Student Supports, Oakland University

"Without DEVIATION FROM THE NORM, progress is not possible." Frank Zappa
