About this event
Join members of Save Coastal WIldlife Nonprofit & The Plastic Wave Project Nonprofit as we cleanup and restore the bayside beach at Plum Island (Parking Area B) at Sandy Hook, NJ, a part of Gateway National Recreation Area.
We will also be conducting a training to help people monitor beaches throughout the year for microplastics.
Volunteers are Needed!!! The more volunteers that register, the more tiny plastic debris and opther trash items can be removed to help save coastal wildlife along the northern Jersey Shore
Please follow the following health and safety precautions:
- Please make sure to always wash your hands after a cleanup for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water.
- Wear a cloth face mask or face covering. We require that volunteers wear a face-mask or face covering that covers your nose and mouth for the duration of the cleanup if you have not been vaccinated or if social distancing cannot be maintained.
- Please bring a face mask and kindly wear it if social distancing is not possible.
- No hugging, handshakes, or high fives. Smiles, peace signs and words of encouragement are always most welcome.
- Frequent hand-washing / use of hand sanitizer during and after the cleanup.
- Do not touch your face during the cleanup.
- Wash hands thoroughly (20+ seconds) after the cleanup.
- Do not touch another volunteer or person before, during or after the cleanup.
- Please wear sturdy shoes that can dirty. No Flip-Flops! We recommend wearing boots, hip boots or waders that can get both wet and dirty.
- Pick up litter that you can safely handle and lift. Beware of items like broken glass, sharp items, etc., which are occasionally found during a cleanup. It is preferable to use a trash picker during cleanups if possible.
Please bring a small container or jar to pick up small plastic debris.
