For many of us, the COVID-19 pandemic is disrupting our way of life. The best thing we can do right now is physically isolate ourselves, but let’s not confuse that with social isolation. Chicago Cares is committed to helping us expand our definition of what it means to serve, to connect, and to support one another. After all, this health crisis has revealed the significant fault lines in our policies and how much more we need to be doing to support our neighbors.

That’s why Chicago Cares is proud to announce Volunteers Connect, a free, virtual program to keep Chicagoans connected and civically engaged during these challenging times. Our first Volunteers Connect theme will be on food insecurity – a timely issue facing many of our neighbors. Across four digital opportunities, Chicago Cares invites you to learn:

    1. How to build connections to help us redefine what service involving food insecurity looks like in our city.
    2. How to deepen knowledge about why and how food insecurity persists in so many neighborhoods.
    3. How to take action on food issues, whether through advocacy, organizing, or other change efforts.
    4. Reflect and celebrate our learnings.

Let’s use this exceptional time to build empathy even when we cannot always connect in person – by shifting the conversations we are having, by learning our neighbors’ stories, by educating ourselves on the issues we face, and by asking ourselves how we will be better advocates when this is all over.

This ticket is for the first installment, Building Connections. You will receive your invitation to weeks 2, 3, and 4 of the series following completion of the first event.
