Event description

Description

This month's Second Saturday event will bring together Volunteering Untapped, Teach for America and Thread to beautify and improve the facilities at Frederick Douglass High School. We will paint walls, murals, the Douglass logo and more. Others will be working in the school's outdoor garden, or helping with general upkeep.

Teach for America expands opportunity for children by affecting profound systemic change by finding, developing and supporting a diverse network of leaders from classrooms, schools, and every sector and field in order to shape the broader system in which schools operate.

Thread engages underperforming high school students confronting significant barriers outside of the classroom by providing each one with a family of committed volunteers and increased access to community resources. In addition, Thread fosters students' academic advancement and personal growth into self-motivated, resilient, and responsible citizens.

Volunteering Untapped aims to improve Baltimore by increasing volunteerism. The concept is simple: Volunteer with a different nonprofit on the Second Saturday of every month from 10 -1, then spends the afternoon at a local bar socializing.

Afterparty Deets:

After our beautification efforts are complete we will be gathering at TouchPoint Baltimore (2401 Liberty Heights Ave) where there will be free beer and wine for all the volunteers. We will also have a food truck onsite where everyone can purchase some grub!
