Grassroots Ecology and Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (MidPen) are partnering to restore and protect valuable habitat on the MidPen Hawthorns property - an old estate covering 79-acres in Portola Valley. Although the property is now an open space owned by MidPen, it is not open to the public. Grassroots Ecology volunteers will gain access to this property when pitching in to help remove French broom during a workday. Don’t miss the opportunity to check out this quiet piece of land covered in native biodiversity and teeming with wildlife.
Who: Volunteers of all ages are welcome; minors under 18 require a signed waiver and children under 12 require an accompanying adult unless prior approval is obtained from the workday supervisor. Groups can contact Kristen Williams at kristen*grassrootsecology.org for their own special program dates/hours.
What: Volunteers will help remove invasive French broom from the historic Hawthorns property.
Where: Hawthorns, 4411 Alpine Road, Portola Valley. We will meet at the small park on the corner of Alpine Road and Portola Road (next to Portola Valley Hardware). Carpool, bike, or walk if possible.
Please bring: A reusable water bottle and dress for outdoor work (sturdy shoes and long pants recommended). We provide gloves and tools. Minors under 18 must bring a waiver form signed by a parent.
