On January 28th, The Active Citizen is partnering with City Harvest to address hunger in New York City by volunteering at a mobile market. Food insecurity impacts approximately 1.4 million New Yorkers. For many of these New Yorkers, healthy food is unavailable and unaffordable. Lack of access to enough food for an active, healthy life can have devestating consequences on communities, and diseases related to poor nutrition, including diabetes and heart disease, are often concentrated where demand for emergency food is the greatest.
TAC will be working at the mobile market, a farmers-market style food distribution, to provide fruits and vegetables to low-income communities. Mobile markets provide the opportunity to lend strong, direct services to communities in need and we are excited for this event! Please sign up to secure your spot and dress appropriately as we will be working outside.
