About this Event

Greeks in Health Care has partnered with DC Central Kitchen in their efforts to combat food insecurities in the Washington, DC communities. Access to food is a social determinant of health impacting millions of Americans. We can help!

Join Greeks in Health Care as we volunteer to prepare meals to feed those in need and support DC Central Kitchen's mission to help solve this substantial issue.

Details below:

Late arrivals (cut-off 8:45am cannot be permitted.)

Location Information: DC Central Kitchen is located at 425 Second Street NW, Washington, DC 20001, on the ground floor of the Federal City Shelter, a three-story gray building on the southeast corner of 2nd and E Streets NW. There is no on-site parking at the Kitchen, so please use public transportation if possible.

Metro: The closest metro stop is Judiciary Square on the Red Line. From the Judiciary Square 4th and D Street exit, head south on 4th Street NW, left on D Street NW, left on 1st Street NW, and then left into the service alley just south of Sandwiches by Phillip. The entrance to the Kitchen looks like a service/delivery entrance and is marked by a large sign.

Parking: There is no on-site parking at our Main Kitchen. Limited parking is available in lots at Union Station, on E Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets NW, and on the street. There is metered parking along E Street NW, 1st Street NW and New Jersey Avenue NW, all within a block of the Kitchen.

All volunteers must be 12 years or older. Storage space for volunteer personal belongings is limited, so please plan to travel light.

DRESS CODE:

Safety is our number one concern. All volunteers must wear appropriate and professional attire suitable for an industrial production kitchen. Please wear closed toed shoes, sleeves and long pants. Shoes with high-grip soles are strongly recommended.

• No shorts or short skirts/dresses

• No tank tops or sleeveless shirts/dresses

• No shirts with exposed midriff (front or back)

• No open toed sandals or shoes

• No clothing with crude or offensive words or images

• No loose jewelry such as watches, bracelets, dangling earrings, and rings

Thank you for volunteering. We look forward to sharing this experience with you.
