Volunteer to Save History!
Event Information
Description
Join us for an exciting and innovative digital preservation event on Capitol Hill! On Saturday, December 12th, HumanitiesDC and the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) will host “Your DC Digital Museum: Capitol Hill.” We will invite the public to bring their historic photographs, documents, and objects to the CHAW’s semi-annual Performance Festival. Staff and volunteers will digitize these artifacts for an online collection, and will conduct brief oral history interviews with donors.
We will need volunteers to help with the digitization process, to assist donors with documentation forms, to conduct oral history interviews, and to provide other help where needed. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about personal digital preservation, and the history of the Capitol Hill Community!
We will host a volunteer training session at the HumanitiesDC office on Tuesday, December 1st from 6:30 to 7:30pm. Attendance is highly recommended but not required. If you will be able to join us for the training, please register using the "Volunteer and Attend Training" ticket. Please note that this training session will be held at the HumanitiesDC office (925 U Street, NW) not the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop.
Volunteers under 15 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Light refreshments will be provided.
If you have any questions, please contact Jasper Collier at jcollier@wdchumanities.org or 202-387-8391.
