Event Details

"Once upon a time, many pets did not have a home.

Many people wanted to help them but they were unaware of the pets' plight, partly because they could not see good photos of them.

Then one day, a group of volunteers came together to help photograph the pets.

After this, the pets had photographs which made them look like movie stars.

Because of the new photos, people lined up to adopt them.

Until finally, one day, all the pets found loving homes.

This is not just a fairy tale…it is happening all over the world.

Let's make it happen in Memphis!"

About

To reduce the possibility of euthanasia due to overcrowding and a costly length of stay, photography programs have been implemented in shelters across the country. This program has proven to increase adoptions by 30% immediately. Pets are photographed by volunteers and used for various websites. Dogs and cats awaiting adoption are fully vetted and spayed neutered.

Many dogs are euthanized every day because they can't find a family to adopt them. It's not their fault - they did nothing to end up here. With some better picture taking, dogs can find a new home in less time. It's true! Recent studies show that just take a dog’s photo outdoors significantly helps in getting the dog adopted quicker. You do not need to be professionally skilled or have specific equipment. If you have a smartphone, you can help. Even if you do not feel comfortable taking photos, you can help just by distracting the dogs with toys or posting the photos.

If we "better market" homeless dogs so they can find a family to take them in faster, we have just avoided the possibility of euthanasia. Snapping a random picture of a dog behind a chain-linked fence, in poor lighting and in unflattering poses does not promote a "feel good" emotion.

Adopters are motivated to make a trip to an animal control facility or shelter to meet with an orphaned dog or cat if they have connected with the pet in a picture. The results of these pictures are instant. In some communities across the country dog shelters have seen a 100% increase I adoptions. "Gone" are the unflattering images of unfortunate dogs! "In" are the photos of dogs with a soul!

Who We Are

We are a group of people who have fun promoting these deserving animals with great photographs. We are not just photographers. We are a group of people from all walks of life who want to help animals. We are very proud to say our photos are used by Memphis Animal Services & the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County. You can see them online at PicMePets.org and or on Facebook. Join our Meetup Group for all the upcoming events.

The Event

You can come for as long as you can stay. There is no obligation to stay the whole time. The event usually lasts an hour and a half to two hours. No experience is necessary. If you love animals and you love to take photos, then you will fit right in. We work as a team. Our goal is to usually to get at least one good photo for each animal.

After the Event

We edit them as quickly as possible and post them to a Dropbox. The staff from these places will have access to the Dropbox and use the photos as they see fit on their websites, our website, and various social media websites. Remember, all PR is good PR, so come volunteer with us. We do this every month. We hope to see you soon!
