Volunteer Louisiana Foundation Champions of Service Gala

The Champions of Service Gala celebrates the 20th anniversary of Volunteer Louisiana AND AmeriCorps. The celebration will recognize the importance of volunteerism to our communities and outstanding service leadership throughout the state.
Dress is business casual with a cocktail reception beginning at 5:30p.m., followed by the gala kickoff at 6:30p.m.
Former Catholic High standout and NFL running back, Warrick Dunn will be honored as our Louisiana Champion of Service. He established Warrick Dunn Charities focused on providing programs and services for single parents who are committed to achieving stability for themselves and their children. In 2012, Warrick Dunn Charities expanded its service to include a mobile children's bereavement program called Betty’s Hope in Baton Rouge.
Five regional volunteers, nominated by their communities, will also be honored. Regions include Cajun Country, Crossroads, Greater New Orleans, Plantation Country and Sportsman's Paradise.
Attendees will be invited to participate in a community service project, sponsored by Roy O Martin, Chesapeake Energy and Louisiana Lottery, during the event, writing cards of thanks and support to Louisiana troops overseas in collaboration with Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana.
Guests will enjoy dinner prepared by Chef Don Bergeron and music by Andy Bourgeois Band.

In 1993, the Volunteer Louisiana Commission was established in the Office of the Lt. Governor to rekindle the spirit of service and citizenship among Louisianians. The mission of Volunteer Louisiana is to build and sustain high quality programs that meet the needs of Louisiana's citizens and promote an ethic of service.
