Description
Join King Conservation District and Stone Soup Gardens at Highline United Methodist Church in Burien on Saturday, June 1st from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm for a volunteer event and two workshops. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided. This event is family friendly! Share with friends on Facebook.
Ever heard of the ancient practice of slow decomposition and permanently raised mounds known as hügelkultur? Learn how to rebuild soil, retain moisture, build biological activity, and increase growing space with the creation of hügel mounds in raised beds!
Designer and General Contractor Stone Soup Gardens will give a tour of the space and will be leading volunteers in a concurrent workshop on Faswall Green Beds and we will finish the construction of 8 raised beds. There will be opportunities to learn how to build this cutting-edge sustainable technology made with recycle concrete and wood pallets have a life span 4 x longer than standard wood raised beds.
Hazel Valley Community Farm is near project completion of phase 1 thanks to United Methodist Church, Stone Soup Gardens, Weed Warriors, and Tilth Alliance Soil and Water Stewards. Two rain gardens with native plants have been installed. Phase 2 of the project will include 2 cisterns, fencing, a shed, and more edible plants in the fall.
Helps us build 8 more faswall green beds and fill 22 raised beds with hügelkultur mounds so that the gardeners can get growing!
Bring clothes for being outside and working with soil, closed-toed shoes, water bottle, reusable mug or thermos for hot drinks, and a lunch.
