Event description

Description

Marianas residents are invited to join the first Day of Service at the American Memorial Park on Saipan next week Saturday, August 27, from 7am - 11am.

The National Park Service is commemorating its 100th anniversary, and the Day of Service will both mark the centennial celebration and kick off a series of service days to gather community volunteers to help clean up this beloved park, which remains in a state of disrepair since Typhoon Soudelor struck Saipan over one year ago.

Volunteers will be able to assist with a variety of projects in the memorial landscape, the Visitors Center, and the wetland areas of the park. Our goals: to make American Memorial Park beautiful once again in time for Veterans Day 2016, and, above all, to restore the Park as a place of honor and solemn remembrance for the thousands of U.S. service members and Marianas civilians who died in the Battles of Saipan and Tinian in World War II.

Register here online by checking out a free ticket for the Day of Service (click on the green "Register" button). Volunteers may also register in person at the American Memorial Park Visitors Center. Youth under 18 will need signed consent from a parent or guardian.

ON AUGUST 27 - PLEASE MEET AT THE AMPHITHEATER UPON ARRIVAL.

Refreshments will be provided and supervisors/organizers will gladly sign community service documentation for those who want record of volunteer hours.

For more information, contact the Office of U.S. Congressman Gregorio Kilili Sablan at (670) 323-2647 or kilili@mail.house.gov.
