Event description

Description

The Michigan Indigent Defense Commission was recently awarded the Byrne JAG Grant to create simulated trial exercises in regions of the state where trials are not common (Western MI, Mid-MI, Northern MI) in order to offer experience and skills training to attorneys in anticipation of Standard 7’s qualification requirements.

This grant-funded trial skills simulation project will be offering two and three-day programs throughout the State of Michigan to attorneys who represent indigent defendants within the state. This two-day program will offer an intensive focus on voir dire, with voir dire teaching, practice and preparation on day one, and live practice in front of mock jurors from the community on day two.

This program is being offered at the Isabella County Courthouse on February 20 and 21 from 8:30am to 4:00pm each day. A group lunch will be provided on both days.

Participants will earn 15 hours of CLE credit for participation in the full program, and the program will satisfy the skills training requirements of Standard 1. CLE credits will only be awarded to attorneys who complete the entire program.

To be eligible for participation in the program, you must be a licensed attorney representing indigent defendants within the State of Michigan. You must plan to participate in the entire two-day program.

A $50 fee will be charged for the cost of lunch and refreshments. The $50 lunch fee is non-refundable.

Each two-day program is limited to 6 participants. A wait-list will be compiled once the program is full.
