Event Details

The ¡VIVA MARIACHI! Festival at Napa Valley College is Napa County’s first ever mariachi related educational and cultural event that will enhance musicianship for participants and encourage a culture of academia in our community. It will also promote the rich heritage and cultural traditions of Mexico through performances by acclaimed high school and college ensembles.

The festival will offer a unique opportunity for students, educators, and for the Napa arts and philanthropic communities to learn how these programs are thriving elsewhere in the U.S.; how they enhance students’ academic performance; and how they foster greater appreciation for this uniquely Mexican musical tradition; all while enriching the cultural vitality of their institutions and their surrounding communities.

¡VIVA MARIACHI! CONCERT - 7pm

Tickets for the concert can be purchased using the tickets option at the top of the page.

¡Viva Mariachi! will feature:

With the overwhelming success of our inaugural year, the Viva Mariachi Festival is once again hosting youth/student mariachi groups representing three levels of our nation’s public institutions: middle school, high school, and college.

To better accommodate our concert environment, we have moved the performances to the Napa Valley College Performing Arts Center.

The three mariachi groups chosen to perform this year are some of the most accomplished music groups in the United States, winning competitions around the country.

Mariachi Los Gavilanes from Monaco Middle School in Las Vegas has been serving the Las Vegas community since 2002. The music organization is one of the nation's largest mariachi programs. Mariachi student enrollment at Monaco Middle School has skyrocketed to over 500 students. The ensemble has just recently won first place at the San Juan Capistrano annual competition. Youtube video

Mariachi Tesoro high school students from San Fernando just won the title, “Best of the Best in California” at the 2019 California State Fair for the second consecutive year.Mariachi Tesoro is made up of area students from San Fernando middle and high schools who participate in the Mariachi Master Apprentice Program (MMAP). In this unique program, the students are taught by master musicians who are members of the professional group Los Camperos. Youtube video

Mariachi Los Broncos from Cal-Poly Pomona, is one of the first college mariachi groups in the United States. After a hiatus of nearly two decades, a new generation of Mariachi Los Broncos de Pomona took the stage in January 2016 under the direction of ethnomusicologist Dr. Jessie M. VallejoLos Caballeros de Cal Poly Pomona was formed in 2016-2017 in response to the high level of student interest in performing mariachi music.
