Event description

Description

Join us for a free, eight-session art course especially for adults ages 55+, and learn how a lifetime of experience can help enrich personal creativity, and spark meaningful connections with art and each other.

Artworks can plumb memories, create insights, and generate surprising new reflections on familiar topics. Premier poet Robert Carnavale, whose work has appeared in such publications as the The Paris Review and The New Yorker, teaches writing and literature teacher at Drew University and Kean University and for many years helped to lead the Dodge Poetry Program. Carnvale will lead students in exploring the Newark Museum’s galleries to learn strategies for writing ekphrastic poetry – poetry in response to art – as a creative and fresh approach to poetic work, equally valuable for beginning or practicing poets.

At the end of the course, poets will celebrate their work in a culminating social event with families and friends.

Meets for 8 sessions, 10:30am - 12:30pm, Fridays, September 29 - November 10, 2017.
