Visual Art and Social Studies: Textiles From Around the World

Presenter: Alisa Petersen

Learn how to engage students in social studies concepts through hands on textile art projects that explore cultures from around the world. Faux batik, paper shibori, printed mandalas and more! Classroom teachers, arts specialists, and pre-service teachers welcome!

USBE relicensure hours available for licensed educators.

Where: Utah State University, Logan Campus, Edith Bowen Lab School Art Room

Bio: Alisa Petersen is the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Endowed Chair of Elementary Arts Education at Southern Utah University. She grew up in Oklahoma in a home where exploration, making, play, and creativity happened every single day. She studied art and art education at Ricks College, BYU, and Southern Utah University. She has worked as an elementary visual art specialist, a district art coordinator, an outreach artist, and now as a university professor. She teaches courses early childhood creativity and arts integration and runs the artsFUSION program at SUU.

Parking available in the Big Blue Terrace or Black Lot (a temporary parking pass will be emailed to you prior to the workshop). See map below for parking. Enter Edith Bowen Lab School at the north or south door entrances (see map below).
