Event description

Description

Workshop presented by, Attorney, LeDouglas Johnson

If you have a Texas court order that allows you to spend time with your children but the other parent won’t

follow the order, then this workshop can give you the tools you need to enforce that order in court. Also, if you have experienced a loss or reduction of income, this workshop can help you take the steps needed to change your child support payments.

While the Texas Attorney General will help set up and enforce the child support and medical support portion of an order, it will not help enforce the visitation portion of an order. It is up to the parent to initiate an action to enforce visitation. With regard to child support reduction, noncustodial parents who lose their job or see their income decrease can complete a request for review and mail it to the office that is handling their case. In practice, many parents have reported little success with this process.

Legal Aid agencies tasked with providing free and reduced-fee legal services to people unable to pay legal fees routinely shun these cases. Parents in search of visitation enforcement or child support reduction assistance fall in the gap left by asymmetric state enforcement of family court orders in Texas. This mini-workshop is designed to provide you with the information and tools to level the playing field.
