Guided visit to Vatenfall facility in Uppsala.

About this Event

Did you know that your house is heat up with waste? Yeap! The “Brännbart” or “combustible” waste collected in Uppsala is burn in the Vatenfall facility and the energy produced is mainly use in the heating system in the city.

Zero Waste Uppsala is very happy to announce our next visit to the Vatenfall facility in Uppsala on 19th March at 9:00 a.m. The company will provide a guided technical tour that will take around 1.5 or 2 hours.

"Vattenfall is one of the largest providers of fossil free electricity in Europe. Vattenfall produces electricity and heat from many types of energy sources, including hydro, wind, solar, biomass, waste, nuclear, coal and natural gas.

Vattenfall’s facility in Uppsala consists of several different units that generate electricity and produce district heating, district cooling and steam. Almost 95% of all properties in Uppsala are heated with district heating. The main fuel at Vattenfall’s units in Uppsala consists of household and industrial waste materials. Vattenfall is currently investing in improvements which will make production at Uppsala completely carbon neutral by 2030.
