Visit the historic Oakwood Cemetery Chapel by reservation

About this event

We are delighted to reopen the Chapel to the public by reservation as Covid-19 precautions are lessened. In order to manage capacity at the Chapel, we encourage visitors to make a reservation for their individual or group visit. If the reservation is not already filled, we will assist drop-in visitors to make an immediate reservation.

Starting June 9, 2021, the Oakwood Cemetery Chapel, along with many other Museums and Cultural Centers within the City of Austin's Parks and Recreation Division, is open by appointment. If you need assistance, please call 512-978-2310 or email us at to make a reservation. We are also continuing to provide virtual programming and events for the community. Visit our website to learn more.

Current onsite activities available:

  • Assistance finding grave sites within Oakwood Cemetery
  • Access to digital exhibitions on monitors within the Chapel
  • Access to staff for meetings or conversations about Austin's history and our programs

Visitors and staff are encouraged to wear masks while visitors are inside the building.

Through historical tours, exhibits, events and memorial services, the Oakwood Cemetery Chapel provides a place to connect, heal and reflect, that is open to all.

The people who made Austin are at Oakwood Cemetery. We are united here in search of love, life and meaning.

The Chapel is a visitor center where we can, as an act of remembrance, learn about our cultural heritage through the people who were buried in the surrounding cemetery. Genealogy reveals our forebears' influence on the past and future. We share and collect individual narratives to create a framework for the collective human story.
