Description

**Please note that the day listed on the brochure should be Monday, not Wednesday**

Social work leadership is for transformative social change. Our collective commitment to advancing the dignity and worth of all people serves as the ethical grounding for social work leadership. This workshop will introduce participants to a social work definition of visionary leadership. Beginning with an exploration of why visionary leadership is required for transformative social change. Participants will have the opportunity to examine their own vision of leadership, their leadership skills and explore effective leadership practices. The similarities between social work skills and leadership skills will be discussed as well.

Objectives

1. Understand that visionary leadership relies on a transformative leadership approach versus transactional management and be able to distinguish the difference between leading and managing by examining the characteristics of great leaders.
2. Identify the personal context for leadership, the interface of personal identity with personal perceptions of one’s ability to lead, the use of self and personal collateral to accomplish goals, and know methods for finding your leadership voice within today’s political and social context.
3. Appreciate the organizational context for leadership, the social constructions of leading and following, the use of power to foster a collaborative community, and have knowledge of a systemic model for managing conflicts in organizational change.
