Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education Conference 2016
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education is a peer-reviewed community event focusing on education in immersive virtual environments. This open conference is organized by educators, for educators, to provide an opportunity to showcase the learning that takes place in this community of practice.
Over 2,500 people from 50 countries attended our last conference in March 2015. There were 80+ presentations in three days including featured presenters and keynotes including
- Ebbe Altberg, CEO of Linden Lab
- Pamela Brovaik, Public Works Group
- Gord Holden, Heritage Christian Online School
This year VWBPE will be holding the conference in multiple virtual world locations for the 4th year in a row. While Second Life’s virtual environment will still be hosting the main venues, other locations may include OpenSim and other “non-traditional” virtual world environments which are capable of supporting presentations, discussion forums, demonstrations, and hands-on workshops.
Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education is a meaningful way for presenters to share their research and experience about the rich learning systems in virtual worlds and games. This free online conference is produced entirely by volunteers. Conference proceedings are published as the Journal of Virtual Studies by Rockcliffe University Consortium.
In just the past several years, over 80 hours of video footage has been captured and has been made available free to the academic community in addition to other video broadcasts, with thousands of views.
Join us and be a part of this amazing one-of-a-kind conference!

Virtual Worlds: Best Practice Education
The Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education organizational committee is made up of volunteers from across the world. With 250 presenters each year, a small army of over 60 volunteers help make this conference possible. Volunteers are responsible for everything from the design and layout of the conference facilities, social activities, communications, programs, training, security, and journal publications. 100% of all donations and sponsorships toward the conference go directly towards program activities.
