BE SURE TO REGISTER FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL SESSION THAT YOU OR YOUR TEAM WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN...INCLUDING THE PITCH!!

What is a Hack for Impact?

A "hackathon" is a design sprint-like event in which teams collaborate in a short period of time to "hack" through a problem to a workable solution.

A Hack for Impact, is about bringing together diverse individuals with different areas of interest, expertise, and perspective to collaborate intensively in teams to develop innovative solutions to a pressing social challenge. Impact solutions DO NOT need to be software, hardware, or technology-based, in fact, they often are not. Technology may and can be a part of a social impact solution, but innovative solutions are often delivered in simple yet novel ways .

About this Virtual Hack for Impact:

We want to know how you would enhance the student experience if you could!

During these times of unprecedented disruption, we're asking YOU, our students, to imagine and help design new ways to enhance your student experience -- whether ideas for what can be done now, or ideas for what the student experience should be like on the other side of this disruptive crisis.

What are the possibilities that you imagine?

Unlike most hackathons that are typically held over the course of 1 or more days, this virtutual hackathon will be comprised of 4 mini-sessions held during common hour over the course of 2 1/2 weeks. Teams will work independently between sessions and prepare for a final pitch on our last day for prizes!! Schedule below.

Individuals or teams (up to 4 members) from any Penn State Campus can register.

  • Gather your friends and form a team!!
  • Meet along with other teams in remote mini-sessions via Zoom (schedule below) where we'll share tools, concepts and direction to guide you through the hack experience.
  • Each team works together over Zoom, Google Hanouts, or any other way you choose to work remotely between our mini sessions.
  • Learn to apply Human Centered Design principles, creative problem solving and other skills to create an innovative solution to enhance YOUR STUDENT EXPERIENCE.
  • THEN PITCH YOUR IDEA FOR PRIZES! Who knows, we might just decide to implement your idea!!
  • Receive a Certificate of Completion if you attend all mini sessions and participate in the Pitch Competition on 4/15
