Virtual Cycling Video Premiere In Mkt Sq, Pgh - Training Partnership Kick-Off Event
Friday, September 19, 2014 from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM (EDT)
This event kicks off a brand new partnership with the American Diabetes Association of Western Pennsylvania& Cycling Fusion. This January, Cycling Fusion will conduct a 12 week training program to help beginner to advanced riders prepare for the 2015 Tour De Cure.
The Tour de Cure (TDC) is the American Diabetes Association’s exclusive fundraising cycling event! It’s day full of fun and excitement where riders of all levels join forces in the fight to Stop Diabetes® and raise critical funds for diabetes research, education and advocacy.
Funds raised by this virtual cycling event at Market Square will apply 100% towards any riders wanting to participate in next year's ride (there are multiple lengths and levels of riding). In addition, those who later sign up for Winter Training at one of the designated YMCAs (the official training centers) will also have another $100 contributed towards their fund raising minimum. That's $175 of the $200 required before you begin your first outdoor ride of 2015! The only thing left to do then is train!
The nationally aclaimed Winter Training program by Cycling Fusion will be conducted for 12 Sundays starting January 11th, 2015. Those participating in this program are guaranteed to be able to ride any of the distances offered in the 2015 Tour De Cure. This will give those who have been wanting to ride in the TDC but have been hesitant because of either the physical or financial requirements, a very realistic opportunity to enjoy one of the annual favorite rides of men and women of all ability levels in the Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. The Pittsburgh Tour will be held on May 17, 2015 at Seneca Valley High School. Sign up today and Take the Ride of Your Life!
This is the first of 3 Maui Virtual Cycling training videos to be released by Global Ride Productions, the international filming and production division of Cycling Fusion. Local technolgy entrepreneur Gene Nacey pioneered the development of these international virtual ride experiences by producing training rides from Italy, Spain, France and our own state of Hawaii. "These videos take indoor riders on an outdoor experience. We knew in 2007 the addition of video would be the next evolution of Indoor Cycling, and it has become that and more" says Global Ride & Cycling Fusion founder and Chief Cycling Officer Gene Nacey (Coach Gino).
Celebrity Ride Leaders
A member of the Novo Nordisk Amateur Cycling & Running Teams will be coming in as our Featured guest speaker. Adam Driscoll is an elite cyclist and runner with Team Novo Nordisk, a group of cyclists, triathletes and runners all living with diabetes. In addition, International Indoor Cycling star Tom Scotto will be flying in from Boston to Co-Lead the ride with Coach Gino; both of whom have the "inside scoop" from the riders perspective on this Maui Madness virtual cycling ride. Local Phenom and certified triathlete coach Matty Mauclair will be take a break from Ironman training to join us in the front.. Our 5th ride leader is local triathlete, coach and the driving force behind the many endurance events held in and around the city, Joey Stabile .
You can sign up to ride the entire 90 minute ride, or there are both 60 minute and 30 minute options. Beginners are recommended to choose the 30 minute option. After the ride, enjoy your favorite "recovery drink" at the after-party being held at the Diamond Market in Market Square. The ride starts at 8:00pm and will end around 9:30pm. Riders can change and/or shower at the adjacent PNC YMCA (entrance on 5th avenue).
If you are not riding in next year's Tour De Cure, the funds raised through the price of the event will be used as a scholarship for young riders wanting to participate at any level. Seating is limited so do not delay signing up.
