Event description
Gather with everyday citizens from across the US for this joyful, nourishing, and civic tradition.

About this Event

“...being American is more than a pride we inherit. It’s the past we step into and how we repair it.”

Poet Amanda Gorman captivated the nation with her piece “The Hill We Climb” at the Inauguration Ceremony in January, and her poetry offered a beautiful opportunity to reflect on this hill we are climbing together—how we can live up to our nation’s creed.

For our March Civic Saturday, three Civic Saturday Fellows—people who are leading their own Civic Saturday gatherings around the nation—will share with us a civic sermon that reflects on these words, and what repair means to them.

On March 27th, join us for a special Civic Saturday to reflect on our own civic practices of our own, nourish our civic souls, and think deeply about “how we repair it” with the help of these three Civic Saturday Fellows.

What happens at Civic Saturday? Civic Saturday is a civic ritual — a place to come together in civic community, be inspired and encouraged to reflect and connect around American ideals and our role in upholding them, and create new civic traditions that are joyful and communal. We'll gather together on Zoom to hear poetry, readings of civic texts, sing together, share thoughts and ideas with each other, and, this time around, hear not just one ‘civic sermon’ but three several ‘mini’ civic sermons from Civic Saturday Fellows across the country.

Civic Saturday will start at 11:00 AM Pacific / 2:00 PM Eastern on Zoom—it’s free and open to all. RSVPs required to receive Zoom link. Please email taneum@citizenuniversity.us if you have any questions.
