Panelist Biographies

George Miles is a native of New Jersey and has a B.A., an M.A. and M. Phil., in history from Yale University. Upon finishing his graduate work, George taught in both New Haven and North Haven. In 1981 he was offered the position he holds to this day: Curator of the Yale Collection of Western Americana at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. His responsibilities include not only acquisition and supervision but also education; and, in his own words, "This is the only job I want for the rest of my life. It combines all of my interests." In addition to this primary responsibility, he has also taught courses at Yale, Columbia, and University of Virginia.

Nick Aretakis is a native Californian, and has a B.A. in History from the University of California at Berkeley, and an M.A. in International Affairs from the George Washington University. From 1996 to 2000 he worked at C-SPAN television, helping to launch their BookTV programming. In 2000 he began to work as an Associate in the Americana Department at the William Reese Company, and was there until 2014 when he moved back to California to begin his own rare book business, specializing in Americana and the American West. In November 2018, he returned to the William Reese Company, as manager of the Americana Department.
