Kelley Park is full of surprises. It features six parks in one, offering many habitats for nature.
About this event
Naturalists Merav Vonshak and Kathleen Tarlow will lead us through a section of this City of San Jose Regional Park. Since spring is upon us, new plant growth combined with the associated bugs and birds will be eye-catching.
This tour of nature in Kelley Park is a virtual BioBlitz, where we'll share a variety of nature throughout the park, from slime molds to birds. Enjoy this event from the comfort of your computer, then come out to visit the park and take a close look at nature yourself.
Kathleen Tarlow grew up in the Bay Area and still can't get enough of the beautiful outdoor spaces and all that they contain. She has degrees in biology and education, and finds it easiest to talk about plants (since they don't move). She currently shares her love of local nature with people of all ages as Education Director at Grassroots Ecology.
Merav Vonshak is a community science organizer, leading public events and programs in the South Bay. She is organizing BioBlitz events and leading hikes and iNaturalist workshops in collaboration with many organizations, such as Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful, Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society, Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority, Saved By Nature, and others. She is leading community science programs, such as pacific newts roadkill surveys and the Jasper Ridge Ant Survey. She also teaches natural history at SJSU and contributes to various citizen science projects. Merav founded the BioBlitz.club, a home for community science events in the South Bay, where people can learn about future activities and download free material, such as bird and flower guides. She has a BA in Biology, MSc in Ecology, and a Ph.D. in Zoology.
