VIP901 LAW & JUSTICE FORUM
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Memphis Branch and the National Civil Rights Museum in partnership with the National Association of Health Services Executives Memphis Chapter will host Voting is Power 901 (VIP901) Law & Justice Forum featuring candidates running for judgeships and candidates running for Shelby County Sheriff (Floyd Bonner & Dale Lane) on Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. The forum will take place at the National Civil Rights Museum and will be moderated by Just City Executive Director Josh Spickler. Doors will open at 5:30. The forum will start promptly at 6:00 p.m.
“This election season is already extremely polarized because of the national issues our country faces. In the light of how imperative it is for each citizen to get out and vote, these forums are a necessary public service,” said Deidre Malone, President of the NAACP Memphis Branch. “The Law & Justice Forum that we are presenting is key to understanding the possible leadership we will put in place to govern our community. We hope that everyone will come out to hear what the candidates have to say.”
Voting is Power 901 (VIP901) is a grassroots campaign developed by the NAACP Memphis Branch and the National Civil Rights Museum with the help of community partner NAHSE - Memphis Chapter to increase knowledge about the voting process in Shelby County and the increase voter turnout during elections. The goal of this program is to empower communities of color throughout Memphis by not only connecting them to voter resources but also to connect them to their current political leadership and candidates running for office through forums and discussions.
In 2018, VIP901 will hold several forums around the city to allow voters who express their concerns and ask questions of those running for office. The forums are free, child-friendly and from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday or Thursday nights. All are welcome.
