Event description
Vinyl is back, sort of? by Hugh Davenport, Senior Lecturer at The University of Northampton.

About this event

Do you have a vinyl collection skulking in the dark, in the loft or just gathering dust in a corner…..never to be handled again? CDs packed off to the charity shop or donated to the allotment gardeners, who love to hang them up as bird deterrents? Cassette-tapes – well, I won’t even go there!

Come with me on a journey of vinyl, CD and cassette-tape “discovery” (yes, even the lowly cassette-tape!). With the help of Discogs, memories and anecdotes – we can re-discover our music heritage!

Well, OK – that all sounds a bit pompous? BUT having spent some of the “lockdown” cataloging and valuing my collection, with the help of Discogs – I have picked up a few hints and tips along the way and made one or two “awesome” discoveries! Maybe you have too? Come to this session armed with one of your favourite pieces of music, in your hands and tangible (not something off Spotify/iTunes/Dweezer – you get the drift?).

We will cover some basics of collecting and valuing, a bit about Discogs and all it offers and how re-discovering our music collection helps to reconnect us with our past (or at least some warm, fuzzy memories!).

This event is part of a series called 'So, here's the thing...' which gives people an opportunity to talk to an audience about a subject they are passionate about. Hosted by The University of Northampton, students, staff and members of the public are all welcome.
