Event description

Description

Adding a splash of something acidic, like vinegar, tends to brighten the flavors of almost any dish. But don't limit yourself to one variety. Like wine, vinegars each have distinct personalities from mildly sour rice wine vinegar to boldly sweet Italian balsamic.

Join us at The Biondo Bar for an afternoon of exploring and tasting vinegar at La Biondo Farm & Kitchen on Vashon Island.

In this workshop, we will explore the tasteful personalities of apple cider vinegar, wine vinegar, rice vinegar and the voluptuous personality of a 25 year old balsamic vinegar I experienced in Modena, Italy.

  • Learn which vinegar and how to use vinegar to brighten your soups, vegetables and other favorite recipes.
  • Learn how traditional balsamic vinegar is made in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. Why is it important to know this? I will tell you why...
  • You will feel your taste senses come alive with each tasting of vinegar enhanced vegetable and soup we sample.
  • Take home a sample of a very special vinegar.

Workshop includes wine, education, vinegar laced hors d’oeuvres and a sample bottle of a very special vinegar.

Make it a birthday or other celebratory outing with friends or family!

Maximum 8 people

Testimonials from one of Karen's previous Olive Oil Tasting Workshops:

"I'd never tasted olive oil, straight, before. So I had no idea of the differences in quality, taste and use. At Karen's tasting, I learned that some olive oils are just for 'finishing' - a splash at the end to make something extra delicious. Others are for cooking -- And there's a big variation in taste, turns out my favorite, a light but tangy version, comes from Greece. I learned all this while sitting at the kitchen bar, tasting and comparing with others also delighting in new learnings! It was a fun and different way to get together with friends to learn about something new in the kitchen. I recommend it highly!"

"I had a wonderful time at the olive oil tasting I joined at Karen Biondo's farm. This was my first time ever at this kind of single product tasting, so I learned a lot about how to carefully taste an array of oils as well as the detailed characteristics of the six that she offered. I thoroughly enjoyed Karen's presentation, encouragements and explanations. They helped me to savor a wide variety of oils from several different countries with contrasting colors, flavors and "mouth-feels". I was amazed that just a handful of olive oils could be so different in their tastes, uses and finishes. In the end, I learned which two oils I preferred and how best to serve and cook with them. Along with the other people who gathered that day, I look forward to participating in future tastings that Karen may offer."

Before or after the workshop you may want to enjoy a fine brew of tea or coffee at Minglement Roasterie, perhaps a sweet or savory treat at Snapdragon and enjoy the beach, the view and the Lighthouse at Point Robinson.
