Village Nights Hosted by Richard Barone

Sunday, October 7, 6:30 pm

Cliff Eberhardt and Louise Mosrie

NYC veteran songwriter Cliff Eberhardt brings his literate Cole Porter meets Tom Waits style of pop/blues songwriting and expressive guitar skills to Richard Barone's “Village Nights” at the Washington Square Hotel with special guest and Nashville native/Americana songwriter Louise Mosrie opening. The two songwriters collaborate on each other’s sets with Eberhardt playing guitar and dobro and Mosrie on background vocals.

CLIFF EBERHARDT

Eberhardt got his start in music in the 70's and 80's under the tutelage of mentors Tom Paxton, Odetta and Richie Havens in Greenwich Village's legendary music venues like The Bottom Line, The Lonestar and Kenny's Castaways. While learning his craft, his voice was heard on national campaign jingles such as "The Heartbeat of America" for Chevrolet as well as jingles for McDonalds and Coca-Cola.

Cliff Eberhardt was signed to Windham Hill Records and released his first original album in the 90s. “The Long Road” features a title cut duet with the late folk icon Richie Havens and the first single “My Father’s Shoes” hit #1 on the Billboard AC charts in cities nationwide. Eberhardt went on to produce 9 more albums on Shanachie and Red House Records to critical success as well as accumulating over 25 song cuts by other notable artists like Richie Havens, Shawn Colvin, Buffy St. Marie, Erasure, Russ Taff and Cry Cry Cry (Dar Williams, Richard Shindell & Lucy Kaplansky). His latest project is “Shrew Songs” – written and performed in the 2012 Folger Theatre’s award-winning production of “The Taming of the Shrew”. He is also well known as a songwriting teacher, producer and arranger.

“Eberhardt sings with passion and wit…what makes his brand so rare is the self-assurance and poise he brings to his nearly flawless show.” —The New York Post

Louise Mosrie got her start by taking top honors at the Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk Songwriting contest and then went on to win or place at several other festival competitions including Telluride Bluegrass, Rocky Mountain Folks Fest and Falcon Ridge Folk Fest. Her album, “Home”, debuted at #1 on the Folk DJ charts in January 2010. Her latest album, ‘Lay It Down”, was arranged and produced by Cliff Eberhardt and landed on several “Best of” radio lists in 2014. She continues to tour widely as a solo artist and also with Eberhardt.

Louise Mosrie may well be the brightest young folk-oriented artist to emerge from Nashville in many a year.” – Rich Warren, WFMT-FM, The Midnight Special, Chicago

About The Series

Since 1902, the Washington Square Hotel (formerly “The Earle”) has been a haven for writers, artists, and musicians. Take a minute and let these names sink in: Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Bo Diddley, Maynard Ferguson, Chuck Berry, The Rolling Stones, Ernest Hemingway and Dylan Thomas. Yes, all of these greats—and more—have been guests at this iconic Greenwich Village landmark.

Washington Square Hotel hopes to build upon its rich history by launching a monthly salon series. 'Village Nights' will be curated and hosted by Greenwich Village musician, producer, author, legendary frontman for The Bongos, and longtime Villager, Richard Barone.

“Greenwich Village’s longstanding legacy as a center of cultural revolution and a haven for self-expression has always been best expressed through its nightlife. This freewheeling musical salon series celebrates the Village’s folk, jazz, and spoken-word heritage in a uniquely historic setting and offers a great night out!” says Barone.
