Event description

Description

In the fifth edition of Village Nights we celebrate the legacy of comedy and spoken word in Greenwich Village nightlife with three current, standout artists on the scene.

Tammy Lang, A/K/A TAMMY FAYE STARLITE, has come to be one of the brightest stars in the Downtown New York scene. The always peripatetic Tammy maintains a busy schedule of performances, guest appearances and benefits, not only in Manhattan but around the country. Her startling feats of musical reincarnation she has created a new kind of cabaret. Equally gifted as an actor and singer, Lang deep-dives into the vaults of art-pop-rock-whatever and returns clutching buried treasures. In Nico: Underground — her bio-show -– she brings back the late Velvet Underground icon in all of her fuzzed-out, deadpan glory. With Cabaret Marianne, Lang salutes Marianne Faithfull, another foreboding yet tragically vulnerable blonde icon of the 1960s. In Just A Kiss Away, her latest project, Tammy’s approach to the Jagger/Richards songbook finds her bringing intimacy to the Stones’ repertoire while channeling the attitude and affect of Mick Jagger, but with less estrogen.

ADAM GABEL is quickly gaining attention in the New York Comedy Scene as "The Guy with The Voice and The Hat". A regular on Comedy's Best Kept Secret Tour, Adam's quick wit, charming stage presence and off kilter delivery have garnered frequent comparisons to Mitch Hedberg and Steven Wright. The Brooklyn Native has been seen regularly at Dangerfield’s, Comic Strip Live and Broadway Comedy Club in New York City and is one of the core group of Featured Writers on Comedywire.com. His frequent tours across the country have brought him to clubs from Atlanta to Missouri most recently as Headliner on the Make Me Laugh Festival in Albany in Central Pennsylvania. When not performing or writing new material, Adam can be found in Brooklyn Parks feeding hipster pigeons Quinoa.

JOSH PALADINI Originally from a small town in Central Florida, Josh is the happy Host in Residence at the popular Greenwich Village comedy club The Grisly Pear. With his blend of crowd work, improvisation, and storytelling, Paladini is widely considered one of the best comedy host/MCs in New York City. Josh has performed at Dangerfield’s, Broadway Comedy Club, and Eastville. With his rock n’ roll looks and encyclopedic knowledge of pop culture, “The Man in Pink” is a unique must-see for all fans of stand-up.

About The Series

Since 1902, the Washington Square Hotel (formerly “The Earle”) has been a haven for writers, artists, and musicians. Take a minute and let these names sink in: Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Bo Diddley, Maynard Ferguson, Chuck Berry, The Rolling Stones, Ernest Hemingway and Dylan Thomas. Yes, all of these greats—and more—have been guests at this iconic Greenwich Village landmark.

Washington Square Hotel hopes to build upon its rich history by launching a monthly salon series. 'Village Nights' will be curated and hosted by Greenwich Village musician, producer, author, legendary frontman for The Bongos, and longtime Villager, Richard Barone.

“Greenwich Village’s longstanding legacy as a center of cultural revolution and a haven for self-expression has always been best expressed through its nightlife. This freewheeling musical salon series celebrates the Village’s folk, jazz, and spoken-word heritage in a uniquely historic setting and offers a great night out!” says Barone.
