This event will begin promptly at 1100 on Saturday, March 25th. The Parris Island Marine Band will begin playing around 1045 when our guests will start the short walk to our flagpole where the ceremony will take place. Transportation will be provided for those who need assistance. The Color Guard will also participate as our Vietnam heroes are properly and respectfully honored. Vietnam War vehicles and memorabilia will be on display.
Guests of honor include two local Vietnam combat Veterans: retired four-star general and assistant commandant of the United States Marine Corps, and business executive, Gen. Walter Boomer. As well as Ridgeland native, retired United States Air Force four-star general who served as Commander, Air Education and Training Command, and was also the first African American pilot in the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, Gen. Lloyd “Fig” Newton.
Complimentary luncheon for all Vietnam Veterans and their family members, and Gold Star families of Vietnam Veterans immediately following ceremony. RSVP is required for luncheon. Lunch is complimentary but you will need a ticket for admission.
