Have you ever dreamt of being a filmmaker? Well, stop dreaming and start making the short films that have long lived inside of you. This fun and fast-paced course will teach you all the basics of video production and will teach you how to start making films in only a few short months. Each session will provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to produce quality short films. Topics will include: Intro to Filmmaking (use of camera, lighting, sound and editing), Intro to shooting (choosing camera POV, lens choices, framing, camera movement, depth of field and selective focus etc.), Intro to editing (continuity, jump cuts, montage and discussion of different editing styles), Intro to lighting. Quality of light understanding hard vs. soft light, color temperature, controlling light, lighting without lights using, Intro to audio (recording audio, types of microphones, monitoring on set audio, basics of using a field mixer and recorder on set) and Intro to post production audio mixing (sound effects and music).
During the last few weekly course session, students will select projects (5-minutes or less), form crews and shoot their scenes incorporating everything learned during the previous weeks. Projects will be screened throughout the production process so that the instructor and fellow student
By the end of this creative course, students will have learned and produced a finished film project that tells a story, expresses their vision and shows off their new-found talents.
Once all the films have been completed, Learning Curve will host a free public screening in The Village’s Renberg Theatre so that you may screen the fruits of your labor to family, friends and to the world at large. Films will also become a permanent part of Learning Curve’s upcoming Online LGBT Film Festival.
