The 2nd annual convention to share, learn, & teach about the art of hair work. From the use of horse hair to human hair,antique & new items.

About this Event

This event is like no other convention! Where else can you watch hair work being made and learn how to do it? Listen to historians, teachers, collector, and lecturers from around the world share their valuable knowledge on the art of hair. From the sentimental to mourning uses. From antiques to modern day. The use of human and horse hair has been applied to almost every culture and on every continent. Sponsored by Leila's Hair Museum of Independence, Missouri and The Museum of The Very Strange in Pennsylvania of the United States. Come brush up on the fascinating world of hair art from the Victorian Hair Workers International. Saturday August 15th, 2020 :

9:00 a.m. - Convention set up for event

10:00 a.m. - Doors open to the attendees.

10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.- A lecture with Courtney Lane of Never Forgotten , hair artist, teacher, lecturer, collector, historian, and restoration specialist.

11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Questions & answer session with Courtney lane.

12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. - Lunch Break

2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. - Courtney Lane of Never Forgotten returns to share more information on hair work.

3:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. - Questions & answers with Courtney Lane.

3:30 p.m.- 4:30 p.m. - Class on how to embroider with human hair. An art form seen in Asia & Europe. All supplies for this class are provided. You may take your finished product and the supplies home with you!

5:00 p.m. - Convention closes - All registrants are invited to join Leila at her Museum for a personal tour. The end of the tour will offer the opportunity to feast at an all you can eat Chinese food buffet (please buy your buffet tickets before the tour).

Sunday August 16th, 2020 :

9:00 a.m. - Doors open to the attendees

9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. - Group share! From antiques to information and share anything hair related you wish to share.

10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.- A lecture by Karen Keenan, artist, teacher, lecturer, on the traditional Swedish hair work and table braiding including history, finished samples, and details of their construction .

11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Questions & answer session with Karen Keenan.

12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. - Lunch Break

2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. - Karen Keenan returns to share more information and knowledge with us!

3:00 - 3:30 p.m. - Question & answer with Karen Keenan.

3:30 p.m.- 4:30 p.m. - Class on how to spin with human hair. An art form that is found in the Middle East, Africa, & Australia! All supplies for this class are provided. You may take your finished product home with you!

5:00 p.m. - Convention closes

Monday August 17th, 2020

9:00 a.m. - Doors open to the attendees

9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. - Group share! From antiques to information and share anything hair related you wish to share.

10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.- A lecture by Sarah Nehama, author, collector, antique jewelry seller, and historian.

11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Questions and Answers with Sarah Nehama.

12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. - Lunch Break

2:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. - Sarah Nehama returns to share more information on antique hair jewelry including history.

3:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. - Question & answer with Sarah Nehama

3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. - Leila Cohoon of Leila's Hair Museum will teach us how to make a snowshoe gimp flower. Supplies are provided and you may take your finished product home.

5:00 p.m. - Convention closes
