Event description

Description

Vicky Ward has spent her career shouting truth to power. She is bold, unafraid and has taken on some of the most flagrant abusers of both. Money, Power, Corruption: they're what Vicky has for breakfast. Most recently in her book, Kushner Inc.: Greed. Power. Corruption, The Extraordinary Story of Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, but now every day on CNN as a Senior Reporter, this is her beat.

She's profiled Jeffrey Epstein in the days before his suicide; reported on behind-the-scenes clashes over spending inside President Donald Trump’s inaugural committee; and covered Trump’s campaign manager Brad Parscale’s financial ties to a pro-Trump super PAC.

She is also editor-at-large for Town & Country magazine where she writes about culture and has covered the scandal that brought down General David Petraeus; a $2 billion fraud in the modern art world, the Knoedler art trial; and Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev’s involvement in an elaborate art world scheme.

Earlier, Ward was editor-at-large for HuffPost and Huffington Post Highline, their long-form magazine, where she covered Republican megadonors Robert and Rebekah Mercer’s influence in the 2016 election and published a deep-dive on political dark money centered around Vice President Mike Pence’s Chief of Staff, Nick Ayers.

From 2001 to 2012, Ward was a contributing editor for Vanity Fair, where she reported on politics, finance, art, culture and society. She wrote about the battle for control of Hewlett Packard; the ousting of Morgan Stanley CEO Phillip Purcell; the controversial business dealings of Sir Mark Thatcher, son of Britain’s former prime minister; the family behind a feeder fund for Bernie Madoff; and Madoff himself.

Earlier, Ward was an articles editor at Vanity Fair; Tina Brown’s executive editor at Talk magazine; a news features editor at the New York Post; a columnist for the London Evening Standard; and feature writer for Britain’s Independent newspaper.

Now, she's ready to TELL ALL at our November Silurians luncheon!

To make sure no one is disappointed, I importune you to register early !

The date: Wednesday, November 20, 2019

The time: Noon

The place: National Arts Club, 15 Gramercy Park South

Remember: We are now using Eventbrite to handle our luncheon reservations. Michael Serrill, our 1st vice-president, is no longer accepting email reservations. There is no charge to use this service unless you choose to pay in advance for your ticket with a credit card.

You will then receive an email confirmation.

You can still reserve by calling the Silurians' reservation line at 212-532-0887. Please spell your name clearly and include a contact number or e-mail. Lunch prices are $55 for members, $65 for guests, payable at the door by cash (exact change, please), check or credit card. And if you’re bringing a guest, make sure to give the guest’s name. Each member can bring one guest, with additional guests put on waiting lists. We will try to seat everyone!

One other, important reminder. Because we must give a final tally to our hosts at the National Arts Club at noon on the Monday of the luncheon, we can accept no cancellations after that moment. And any no-shows will be asked to pay for their seat…which we will have paid for!
