VGP's Pathway Planning Coach, Shawn McVey will revolutionize your veterinary practice operating system!


Overview

Pathway Planning is a system for diagnosing and assessing your hospital’s business health. A finished Pathway Plan is analogous to a treatment plan for your hospital. Like medicine, treatment plans are only useful if they are followed.

What we have discovered is that most hospitals are great at diagnosing their problems but lousy at ongoing assessment and following a plan to fix what ails them. Pathway Planning addresses this shortcoming. It makes your mission, vision, and values an interactive part of everyday planning and action. 

Please join us in Scottsdale, AZ on October 14th, 2016 for this unique educational event that will leave you feeling exhilarated about your practice’s future! The curriculum is full of opportunities to build planning, marketing, and hiring skills. Each session is designed to be engaging and focus on individual elements to make you into a more effective planner.

What You’ll Learn

By the end of the weekend, you will have a whole new set of tools at your disposal—and the skills to use them—so that you can plan and achieve your goals for years to come. In a supportive and reflective environment, you will overcome issues that derail success.

You’ll learn to:

  • Rely on the knowledge that you have power and vision as a leader—traits you can harness to set your organization on the right track
  • Recreate your strategic plan and make it a concise, actionable document
  • Develop and maintain a 90-day accountability cycle
  • Build and strengthen your marketing skills
  • Take control of and run meetings the right way
  • Hire the right people for the right job and let go of those who don't fit
  • Systematically identify and repair problems
  • Track only your most important metrics
  • Become an excellent problem solver
  • Use your data to develop short-, medium-, and long-term solutions

You’ll meet and interact with others who are all in the same boat—people who will have ideas you hadn’t thought of before. You’ll take part in planning and skill-building activities that allow you to reflect on your own and in a group. Once your time with us is over, you will have what you need to set your future goals and transform your culture into one of accountability and enthusiastic support of those goals.

Time is built in at key moments for socializing and reflection, with a cocktail reception and group meals that allow for further connection and conversation. After attending this program, you’ll come away with several practical, useful tools, including a scorecard you can customize for your practice.


Agenda

Your sessions are laid out as follows:

Friday: 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM

On Friday evening, you’ll start with formal introductions and an opportunity to socialize with other participants over cocktails. Additionally, you will walk away from the evening session with a clear understanding of what a completed Pathway Plan is and all that it encompasses.

Saturday: 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM

On Saturday, you will get an introduction to the different elements of the Pathway Planner and how every piece works together. The rest of the day will be devoted to examining your organization’s goals and needs. You’ll focus on how to effectively plan months and years into the future: values, data, people, marketing, and measurable goals.

Sunday: 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM

On Sunday, you will learn to identify your organization’s major issues, or Potholes. You will begin to build the processes you’ll use to systematically address and solve them. You will discover the secrets to running effective meetings. Lastly, you’ll take all the information and skills you’ve learned in the previous sessions and build working plans and solutions that you can implement. Being able to give life to your plans is just as important as making them, and this workshop will give you insight into how to do just that.


Your Speaker

Shawn G. McVey, MA, MSW

Mr. McVey completed his graduate studies in 1991 in political social work and behavioral science. He pursued a career as a psychotherapist and program director in psychiatric facilities, then transitioned to administration of veterinary practices. In 2001, Mr. McVey founded McVey Management Solutions, a consulting business that specializes in improving health care delivery systems and workplace culture. Shawn is the founder of Veterinary Specialists in Private Practice (VSIPP). In addition, he is the Chief Operating Officer and owner-partner of Veterinary Management Solutions, a management service company that oversees the operations of more than a dozen hospitals. He has been named speaker of the year at both the North American Veterinary Conference and the Western Veterinary Conference.

Without a clear idea of where you want to go or how to get there, it’s impossible to move forward. Shawn’s aim is to make sure you have the knowledge, skills and confidence to shape your organization’s future. Shawn uses his combined professional experience in business management and psychotherapy to help you take an honest look at your practice and uncover blind spots in your leadership and business-management skills. The course will be held at JW Marriott's beautiful Camelback Inn Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, AZ. This vibrant and serene, bold and enchanitng resort offers guests a relaxing escape in the heart of Scottsdale's Sonoran Desert. There is a limited number of sleeping rooms reserved for our group at a special rate of $199 per night. You will receive more information regarding securing your reservation(s) in your confirmation email.
